The study consisted of one group that was given help from a clinical dietician and one given help with social support.
At the end of three months, one-third of the dietary group were in remission from depression, compared to 8% of the other group.
Members of the dietary group were encouraged to eat vegetables, fruit, whole grains, legumes, fish, lean red meat, olive oil, and nuts.
They were encouraged to avoid refined cereals, candies, fried food, fast food, processed meat, and sugary drinks.
The ones who stuck closest to these recommendations benefitted the most.
