Alison Flood reports for the Bookseller.com that Mills and Boon, the romance publisher, is hooking up with The Greetings Factory to create a range of greeting cards to be on sale starting in Feb. 08. The campy messages and illustrations draw on the publisher’s backlist from the 1920’s onward. They are also teaming with a puzzle maker on a series of adults puzzles featuring art from retro book jackets.
You may be able to use the same strategy to maximize the return from your writing. For instance, if you have already done a lot of research for your historical novel, could you also create a non-fiction book from that material?
If you have written a blog or a series of articles, could you re-assemble this material for a book?
If you have written a book, could you now spin off a series of articles about the same content--which could also help publicize the book?
For example, I am going to be doing a series of short text/cartoon features for The Writer. Eventually, a bunch of those could easily become a short book. By the same token, I have spun off a series of articles, both free (at ezinearticles.com) and paid (for various websites, like absolutewrite.com) from my Your Writing Coach book. At the end of these articles, there is a reference to book and to my website, which helps spread the word.
