A Holiday Public Service Announcement for Sedentary Writers (is that an oxymoron?):
A new study reported in the medical journal Diabetes reports that in addition to the fact that we don't burn many calories when we're sitting down, there may be another mechanism at work that further slows down our metabolism if we don't get up and move around a bit for hours at a time.
The solution: at least once an hour, get up from the keyboard and move around-- if only a brisk walk around the house or office. If you happen to live or work somewhere that has a staircase, that's a great exercise option.
