In
my “Writing Where the Money Is” workshop recently we discussed how to create
winning titles for your book. There are two basic combinations:
A sensible, descriptive main title and a more frivolous sub-title
Or
A curiosity-arousing main title and an explanatory sub-title
One example of the former is a new book called Why We Make Mistakes – How we look without seeing, forget things in seconds, and are all pretty sure we are way above average.
But when the book is published in the UK this summer, the title will be:
Errornomics: Why we make mistakes and how we can avoid them
...which is an example of the second type. I suspect the change is promoted by the success of the book, Freakonomics – a rogue economist explores the hidden side of everything.
If you’ve come up with a great title/subtitle combination, it will strengthen your book proposal enormously.
