Imagine
magazine featured an article announcing that another multi-media crossover is
in the works, this one a TV series based on the digital partly-animated graphic
novel, “The Many Worlds of Jonas Moore.” The plan is to combine comic book
illustration with 3D animation, live action, old newsreel footage, and original
music.
There will also be a number of opportunities for fans to participate, for instance by creating their own soundtracks and by using digital assets and using them to create their own animations. Of course that kind of interaction appeals to a very small portion of the audience needed by a TV series to survive, but it does help garner publicity.
Triumph Motorcycles is part of the package (Moore rides one), and the property is owned by Factory Publishing. Imagine magazine quotes creator, producer and director of the project, Howard Webster: “There has never been a black British action hero before and what appealed to me was that MGM [who optioned the project] understood this from the outset. Jonas Moore is sophisticated, educated, tough and uber-cool. He represents the next generation of intelligent action heroes of international sci-fi drama.”
It’s interesting to look at the jonasmoore.com website, where you will see that the graphic novel doesn’t actually exist yet. There are only two four-minute previews. In the “press release” section there’s the announcement that episode one of the graphic novel will be released…in winter of 2007. Ooops, time to update that press release, guys.
So the project has been stalled for two years and now there’s an option and MGM Domestic Television Distribution is shopping the property around to various channels.
It looks intriguing and I wish them luck—and we’ll see whether the spin turns into reality.
