Is this the face of the multi-media/magazine fusion to come? I’m talking about Flyp (at www.flypmedia.com), which is a b-weekly mix of text, photos, audio and video for each story. For instance, I’ve just looked at a feature on the singer-songwriter-novelist John Wesley Harding, and it included a few of his songs, a video interview, and brief audio comments by him.
According to a story in the New York Times, Flyp is a year old and has a staff of about a dozen in Manhattan plus free-lancers. Senior Editor Matthew Schaeffer prefers the term “experiences” to “stories.”
Maybe it’s just because it’s an unusual format but to me it feels a bit disjointed. However, assuming it can figure out a way to make money, it may be a forerunner of what more journalism will be like in the near future.
