I had a coffee today with one of my fellow authors in the “…for Entrepreneurs” series of books that will be launched in the UK on August 1 (mine is “Marketing for Entrepreneurs”). Unfortunately we had an encounter with the wrong kind of entrepreneur.
My colleague had his jacket hanging on the back of his chair, with his wallet in an inside pocket. At some stage a man sat down behind him, and when we were ready to go, that man was gone…and so was the cash in my colleague’s wallet. The thief did leave the credit cards and the driver’s license in the wallet, which he left on the floor, which is some consolation. Life in the big city.
Anyway, I thought it might be interesting for you to read about some of the aspects of launching this non-fiction book series, so I’ll post from time to time about what the authors and the publisher (Pearson) are doing.
So far, we are all contributing to a website for which I’m the editor. Each book in the series will have its own page. These will contain the chapter bonuses that are promised in the book, plus links to our other books and sites and, at least on my page, a welcome video.
The site will also have a blog on which each of us posts once a week, at least for the first few months after the launch.
I’m pitching the publisher the idea of including a podcast for which I’d be paid a (very) small sum, but given the cutbacks in publishing recently, I’m not sure they’ll want to invest even that. We’ll see.
Actually, at least the first two elements and maybe even the third are routine these days—the starting point for publicising a book, not anything exceptional.
Now the search is on for additional elements that will raise the profile of the series. I have a few "do something different" ideas in mind that I'll share as we go along (and if you have any suggestions, please feel free to send them to me at j4london(at)aol.com).
