One of the standard methods for coming up with new ideas is to combine several words or phrases to see what new associations come to mind. Here's a fun little device that suggests three elements every time you spin the dial:

I doubt that it'll give you many usable ideas by itself, but as a way to get your brain working, it's a good way to spend a few minutes at the start of a writing session (especially if you still have other things on your mind).
