I'm working (slowly) on a book about networking for shy ...maybe even antisocial (yes, it's autobiographical) people...so I was interested to find seven tips on this topic on Steve Slaunwhite's blog. They're not surprising, but one that I think is an especially good idea is to volunteer.
Quite often the organizers of an event could use a hand with last-minute preparations, so if you show up a bit early and offer to help set up chairs or hand out materials, not only will you earn their gratitude but the arrivals are more likely to talk to you because you seem to be part of the event.
