The site, city of memory, is a great multi-media storytelling idea: There's a map of New York City with lots of dots on it. Each dot connects to a short story either curated by City Lore or submitted by ordinary people making an observation or recalling a memory linked to that location.
Some are videos, some are audios, and some are organized into a series that constitute a tour, for example a tour of Chinatown.
One example is Pete Hamill talking about how the city has affected writers, including Charles Dickens (that one is excerpted from the feature documentary,"Home: the Journey Never Ends").
Anybody can add a story, sing videos, pictures, or sounds to upload to the site, or just linking to external media files (for instance ones you host on YouTube or Vimeo). They say what's eligible is, "Any story that relates to the history and personality of the city." Videos and audios can be ten minutes maximum.
The project is funded by the Rockefeller Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts. Would be great if somebody did something similar here in London...(This is the part where I have to remind myself not to ride off in yet another direction to start a new project!)
