I'm always interested to see what kinds of writing courses people are offering. Today I came across one for which the pitch is, "Write a children's book in 2 weeks or less" using a SECRET system.
The author of this ebook is Mel McIntyre, who says "I've just landed yet another personal book deal--this time for four new children's books. The first in the series, Flutter Bunnies, has just been released."
I had a look on Amazon. That book was actually released three years ago, so I guess the sales page is old.
The book has a terrible cover (in my opinion) and the sales ranking is over 4 million. His or her other book is "The Legend of Lumpus and Ogols" which came out two years ago and also has a terrible cover (again, that's just my opinion) and a sales ranking of about 5 million.
The publisher is Guardian Angel Publishing, which has an unusual royalty arrangement (30% of profits--most publishers give you a percentage of the cover price or of their net receipts) and do their hard copy printing using the print on demand publisher, Lightning Source, for which they charge the author $100 set up fee.
I have no idea whether the course content is any good, and since the price is only $37 and there's a money-back guarantee, it's not the end of the world if it isn't. But in general I'd advise against buying a course that stresses how fast you can write a book above how well you can write one, and one whose author's work doesn't inspire confidence.
