Yesterday I wrote about a Young Adult series with some innovative features. A book with another unusual format is “The Chronicles of Harris Burdick: 14 Amazing Authors Tell the Tales,” by Chris Van Allsburg, with an introduction by Lemony Snickett.
The original “Chronicles” book was published over 25 years ago and consisted of a set of 14 drawings and a caption that suggests each image is part of a larger story.
Over the years, many kids and some adults sent Van Allsburg their versions of the connecting stories. In this book, fourteen authors including Stephen King and his novelist wife Tabitha King, have contributed stories inspired by the images.
This could be a good model for a set of artists and writers not as well known as the ones here. With, say, a dozen artists and/or photographers and a dozen writers there would ultimately be 24 people helping to market the final work and it could be published as an ebook without much expense. Could be an interesting, if ambitious, project for a writers’ group that links with an artists/photographer’s association.
