I’m a fan of painter Maira Kalman and noticed that she has illustrated a new edition of Michael Pollan’s Food Rules. Here’s part of one of the illustrations:
The book emphasizes eating natural foods, but Kalman told the author that “Cheezdoodles had a beloved place in our family history.” She says, “He did not hold that against me.”
November 4-13 is Illustration Week in New York but you can make up one of your own anytime with a visit to a gallery, a browse through the art section of your favourite book store, and a look at websites like www.illustrationweb.com.
I suspect the traditionally published books that will still thrive in the era of ebooks are those that feature beautiful colour illustrations that are a pleasure to view on paper.
(Another book that features colour all the way through is "Creativity Now!" published by Pearson and available from Amazon and other book sellers. It shows you ways to come up with a never-ending stream of ideas--and ways to help you make them a reality.)
