This is the second post based on some of Adam Singolda’s tips for marketers re-interpreted (by me) for writers. His second tip is:
Golden moments do not exist.
What he means is that your success is not determined by one earth-shaking event.
For writers this means several things: first that the time will never be exactly right for you to start writing, so do it now, not “when the kids are older,” or “when I retire” or “when the economy picks up.” Now is as good time as any to start.
Secondly, don’t envy the overnight successes. Most of them had an overnight of ten or twenty years. They don’t mention that, sometimes, because instant success makes a better story in the media.
Third, just decide. Not sure which of the many projects you have in mind to start on? Pick one. If need be, put the titles in a hat.
Not sure which publisher to approach? Approach all of them!
