While the news is full of stories about libraries closing, what a pleasure to read about one opening. And not a little corner shop one, either—this one is huge, the size of four American football fields. Of course it’s in Texas, in a town near the Mexican border, McAllen.
The building used to be a Wal-Mart and the re-do won the 2012 Library Interior Design Competition. It replaced an older, cramped library. It’s encouraging to hear a city putting money into this kind of effort—let’s hope it catches on. I hope it gives heart to pro-library campaigners everywhere.
Here what it looks like--pretty spiffy!
