What words appear most often in log lines for movie scripts? The blog, Go Into the Story, features a word cloud made up of the words used in loglines for scripts that have sold so far this year.
Which of the following do you think appeared most often?
- discovers
- young
- events
The unsurprising answer: young. Other high scorers include school, must, man, single, two, home, life, run, mysterious, mother, and love. And, more mysteriously, amber.
The site is running a contest to see who can come up with the most entertaining log line using any of the words in the word cloud, and a special category of best six-word log line. As an example of the latter, they say the log line for K9 could have been: Renegade cop. New partner. Police dog.
You don’t have long--until midnight, Sept. 27, 2013, and the winners get a free course. More information is here.
I won’t be entering the contest but let’s see if I can come up with one...

A mysterious young criminal discovers his mother is in love with a cop.
Still not right...
A young cop discovers he’s in love with his mysterious criminal mother...
